The Top 16 Oakland Happy Hours

In a hard-working city like Oakland, we need a good happy hour every once in a while. And thankfully, some of our city’s best bars, restaurants and lounges offer spectacular deals every day of the week for both food and drinks.

We rounded up some of our favorites in several Oakland neighborhoods, so you can find a happy hour close to your home, your work, your friends, you name it! Try a few spots on our guide and we’re sure you’ll find a new, Oakland favorite.

Aloha Club

Oakland’s Aloha Club is a 100-year-old, family-run restaurant and bar. Today, they offer an old school bar atmosphere complete with Oakland’s longest bar, a huge and spacious outdoor patio, fresh mojitos, drink specials, a jukebox, a pool table and a four hour long Happy Hour every weekday!

Located just one block from the Fruitvale BART station, you can enjoy $3 Tecate, $5 cocktails, $1 off draft beers, and $1 off all liquor from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Bierhaus is a German-inspired eatery and beer bar that was born in Mountain View, then relocated right here to Oakland’s Temescal District. On the food menu, you’ll find bratwurst, schnitzel, flatbreads and snacks that include soft pretzels, fries, cheese dip and more. But the beer menu is the main attraction with specialized flights, a huge list of beers on draft, bottles, wines and ciders.

Though they’re closed on Monday, Happy Hour is available every day from 1:30 to 6 p.m. and again from 9 p.m. to close. During those hours, you can get $1 off all beers, wines and flights.

Located next to the Downtown Oakland Convention Center, District is an ideal place for gathering with friends. Their food menu showcases shareable plates, pizza and house-made charcuterie and their drink menu represents Oakland’s most extensive wine and whiskey list.

During Happy Hour from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, you can taste selections of their cocktails, beer and wine for just $6 each. And, you can choose from ten different small bites all available for just $6 each. Count us in for half a dozen oysters and a glass of wine!

Federation Brewing

Located in the heart of the Jack London Square district, Federation Brewing is one of Oakland’s best craft breweries. Made with custom brewing equipment, you can enjoy their lineup of year-round staples and seasonal beers in the tasting room directly in front of the production brewery.

Visit during Happy Hour from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to enjoy discounts on those beers!

Lake Chalet

Lake Chalet opened in January 2009 inside the 100-year-old Oakland Boathouse and offers a spacious outdoor deck where you can dine over Lake Merritt. All the ales on the menu are handcrafted at the team’s Chalet Brewery in San Francisco, and the food offerings include a raw bar and contemporary California cuisine with a focus on seafood.

Happy Hour is available Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. and the offerings are found on a huge menu that includes sliders, tostadas, oysters, ales, cocktails and a $10 burger and beer deal. And don’t miss Taco Tuesday every Tuesday from 3 p.m. to close.

The Layover

Nestled right in the heart of Downtown Oakland, The Layover is a bohemian lounge complete with cozy, bench seating, a full bar and an intimate dance floor where you can catch live music shows, stand-up comedy and more.

Happy Hour specials are available until 8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and include $3 bottled beers, $4 draft beers, $5 cocktails and $6 glasses of wine.

The Legionnaire Saloon

Located in the heart of the Oakland Arts District, The Legionnaire Saloon is a welcoming neighborhood pub. Their venue offers two floors of performance space where they host live music, DJ performances, burlesque shows, special televised sporting events and more.

You can enjoy Happy Hour Monday through Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. and all night on Tuesday. During Happy Hour, they offer $4 Modelo pints, $5 well cocktails, $2 off all wine, $10 Powers Irish Whiskey with a pint of Guinness and more.

Luka’s Taproom & Lounge

The Luka’s story is heavy with Oakland legend, including remnants of the beloved Hof Brau and the bar’s namesake, Luka, who was a stray dog from West Oakland, looked like a little black fox and was rescued by the owner. Today, guests can enjoy dinner, lunch, brunch, late-night bites, beer, cocktails and wine.

In addition to weekly food and drink deals on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Luka’s offers Happy Hour Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. During those hours, you can get $5 select draft beers, $6 house wine and $6 well cocktails

Mad Oak Bar ‘n’ Yard

Located at 135 12th Street between Madison and Oak, Mad Oak is a chill hangout that offers 40 craft beers on tap, cocktails, TVs, a patio and a rooftop deck. They also host a rotating pop-up kitchen so you can enjoy new, creative eats about every six months.

Happy Hour is from 3 to 7 p.m. on weekdays, including Friday. During Happy Hour, you can get $1 off well drinks and $1 off 16-ounce draft beers.

Mua Oakland

Mua is a neighborhood bar and restaurant where you can get crab cakes and duck confit alongside an impressive wine list and artisan cocktails.

Happy Hour is offered every single day of the week from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and from 4:30 to 6:30 on all other days. Available at the bar only, you can enjoy a selection of food, specialty cocktails, wine and beer.

Penelope is a neighborhood bar in Downtown Oakland. Their cozy lounge and patio offer the perfect spaces for post-work cocktails, bar games, fun hangouts, office meetings and more. Their bar program specializes in fine spirits, specialty beers and cocktails that utilize fresh, seasonal ingredients.

Happy Hour is from 4 to 6 p.m. and you can get well drinks for just $5, draft beers for $4 and daily specials for every day of the week.

Perle is an upscale but approachable wine bar nestled in Montclair. Using fresh, locally sourced ingredients, their team crafts impressive, seasonal meals, artful cocktails and a great wine list.

In addition to Sunday brunch, prime rib Mondays and weekly prix fixe menus, they offer Happy Hour at the bar Tuesday through Friday from 5 to 6 p.m. The Happy Hour menu includes both food and drink, including beer, wine and well cocktails. And everything is usually $10 or less!

The Punchdown

Unlike any other bar or eatery in Oakland, The Punchdown is a natural wine bar and kitchen inside a bright and welcoming bottle shop. Their specific requirements ensure all wines are made with practices that go far past organic and always taste delicious. You can also enjoy breads, shareable plates, cheese and charcuterie boards, soups, salads, sandwiches and dessert.

During Happy Hour, available every day until 6 p.m., you can order select glasses as low as $5 alongside a selection of delectable snacks.

Rosamunde Sausage Grill

Rosamunde Sausage Grill has three locations in the Bay Area: one in the Mission District, one in Lower Haight and one in Old Oakland. Their Oakland tap list offers more than 15 craft beers and the food menu features sausages made with sustainable meats, both grass-fed and free range, and no additives or preservatives.

Happy Hour is available Monday through Friday from 2 to 6 p.m., and during Happy Hour, you can get a $4 rotating IPA and $1 off all other drafts.

A fun hangout in Downtown Oakland, Somar Bar and Lounge is a neighborhood bar that celebrates music, culture, art and community. Their space is accented with exposed red brick behind local works of art, and you can often find live music, sports viewings and dance parties on the event calendar.

Located less than 10 minutes from Oakland’s Paramount Theatre, Z Cafe and Bar is a dining and drinking destination that offers seasonal, contemporary American fare alongside 100 different vodkas and a variety of artisan, shaken martinis.

Stop by for Happy Hour from 4 to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 5 to 10 p.m. on Saturday to enjoy signature martinis, specialty cocktails and champagne flutes all under $10. Happy Hour Plates are also available for just $6.50 and every Tuesday is Taco Tuesday!
