Safe San Francisco Neighborhood? Or Not?

Blogged on 12/5/2009 by Susan Mortenson

When working with buying clients in selecting a home to purchase in San Francisco, the thing of utmost importance is neighborhood safety.

Much is dictated by the old real estate adage: location, location, location. To help my clients evaluate a neighborhood, the San Francisco Police Department maintains a wonderful free website called CrimeMAPS.

The San Francisco Police Department states, “This site has been created to allow people with an interest in public safety to easily produce maps and reports of incidents from data contained in SFPD police reports. Members of community groups and neighborhood watches can get public safety information whenever they like – as often as they like.”

It maps offenses by address, radius of the address, near landmarks, or within a boundary. It also covers incidents from the past 1 to 90 days.

This is a fabulous tool that gives great peace of mind to my clients in making their purchase decision.
