Do People Really Buy Real Estate During the Holidays?

Blogged on 12/16/2009 by McGuire Real Estate

Yes it’s true.

December 14th 2008 I sat in a conference room with clients, writing an offer for them before they were to leave for holiday in England. They had enough time to wait for a response before they left, and they found that their offer was not accepted. They tried again on New Year’s Day, 2009 and we ratified 3 days later. Our manager Robert Brisbane drove by the office on January 1st and said he was shocked to see so many Realtors’ cars in our parking lot.

My buyers, who are expecting to close escrow the first week in January, received news that the sellers are moving on the 20th of this month. They wondered if the buyers would like to move before Christmas Day!

As far back as 2001 I’ve had clients who have purchased their home in December. In 2006 I even had buyers open escrow on the 23rd of December.

When it comes to buying and selling real estate, you’d be surprised how often it becomes a holiday gift!
