A good school in Sausalito?
In the past most families moving to Marin County would not consider living in Sausalito because of the lack of school options. This all changed 8 years ago when Willow Creek Academy, located at 630 Nevada Street, opened its doors. In fact Willow Creek Academy recently learned that their students’ API score jumped 30 points and now sits at 856 – something to be very proud of.
WCA is one of only 2 schools in Marin that offers K-8th grade (the other is Ross School in Ross). WCA, a charter school, currently has 180 students with a teacher and an assistant in classes K-3 where there are 20 students per class. Those parents who have children outside of Sausalito can apply to have their children attend, but Willow Creek Academy, like most charter schools, gives priority to those families who reside within Sausalito city limits. As of today no students have been turned down due to classes being full.
Because WCA is a public school, there is no financial cost for your children to attend. There is, however, a mandatory 50-hour-per-year time commitment worth of volunteer work required by one parent per year. The goal is to keep the parents involved with the school and their children’s education. Most children who graduate from Willow head off to Tamalpais High School in Mill Valley. Therefore, when you and your family are considering a move to Marin County, include Sausalito in your search.
If you would like a private tour of the campus don’t hesitate to contact them at info@willowcreekacademy.org or Carol Cooper for an appointment. For more information on schools and real estate in Marin, feel free to contact me or browse our website.
