Getting "Real" Smart in 3 Steps
Blogged on 2/3/2010 by Roberta Cohen Holden
When searching for a new home, one of the most important things you can do is become educated about your local real estate market. This will allow you to make a much more informed decision when the right home becomes available.
Here are 3 critical steps I suggest when looking to buy a home:
1. Learn what you can afford.
Work with a reliable lender to get pre-approved for financing.
2. Get the info.
Sign up for a service that will provide accurate information about available properties, keep you up-to-date on their current activity, and show you what they actually sold for. A good example is CleanOffer.
3. Review the documentation.
Do so before you make an offer on a home, so that when you’re ready to make an offer, the paperwork will be familiar to you.
Having a team of professionals to help you navigate the different aspects of purchasing a home can make the experience much more productive and pleasant. We can’t control which properties are on the market at any given time, but a buyer certainly can do the research now to be prepared to make a winning offer when the right property becomes available.
