Boomers and Technology

Sometimes I feel like I have everything technogically figured out, and then “AAUGH!” Something new comes up and the learning process starts all over. It’s like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football when Lucy pulls it away — it’s never going to happen.
I think boomers are resilient enough to take on most any challenge. After all we did change the world. Old “beatnicks” and “hippies” have turned most of their ideals into reality. Art, music, politics, morality, technology and the way we live today has mostly sprung from the ingenuity and fanatasies of this enlightened generation.
BUT, have we gone too far? Computers, cell phones and technology in general has taken over our society. Have we lost the art of personal communication? It is so easy to just click here rather than pick up the phone or knock on a door.
Sometimes I yearn for the days of 4 TV channels (free), no video games and playing outside — baseball in the streets, basketball, football (you go down to the manhole and I’ll fake it to you), hide and go seek — until dark. Simple and, oh yeah, we were in shape without having to go the gym every day.
I guess we adapt, only to realize that it is a never ending battle.
