Presidio Landmark: A New Neighborhood Coming to Your Local Park

Blogged on 6/1/2010 by Lea Ann Fleming

The Presidio Landmark (Landmark Building 1801) is on track for rentals to begin, with availability in July.

Formerly known as the Public Health Services Hospital, the building is located just inside the Presidio north of Lake Street at 15th Avenue. Tenants who move into the Presidio will enjoy a unique opportunity to live in a national park, on the edge of a beautiful bay and bordering an urban environment.

While I am not a resident in the Presidio, my husband and I live five minutes outside one of the historic gates. Riding our bikes through the park and across the Golden Gate Bridge at sunrise is a natural high. We work out at the Presidio YMCA, walk at Crissy Field, shop at the Sports Basement (using our Y 10% discount) and eat at the Presidio Social Club and other restaurants. There are hiking trails, view lookouts and even outdoor art (the new Presidio Habitats exhibit will be “open” for the next year). We used to camp in Yosemite or Yellowstone, but that was a once-a-year event. The Presidio National Park is here for us to experience every day.

But back to the newest neighborhood within the Presidio. The former hospital is now converted to 154 apartments. Rental prices and floor plans are now available at www.thepresidiolandmark.com. Rents range from:

  • Junior one bedrooms with 500 sq ft (aprx) at $2,125, up to
  • Two bedrooms. from 1,000 to 1,500 sq ft (aprx), averaging $4,325
  • Parking is being quoted at an additional $150 outside and $200 in the underground garage.

These apartments join the other residential buildings already renovated and rented throughout the park. One of the reasons originally given for the number of smaller units in the building is the demand from prospective single tenants employed in companies located in the Presidio. Time will tell if tenants will be interested at these rent levels — or if the addition of this many rentals in one location affects the rents in nearby buildings.
