At-a-Glance

The first American settler established what would eventually become known as Walnut Creek in 1849 when he built a cabin on the west bank of Arroyo de las Nueces (or, “Nuts Creek”).

It didn’t take long for this area to grow, and by the turn of the twentieth century, Walnut Creek was on its way to becoming a city.

In the late 1930s, with the opening of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge and the Caldecott Tunnel in 1937, the area witnessed rapid growth that would  continue for decades.

In a Word

And that’s not all. From shopping in Broadway Plaza to hiking by the Lafayette Resevoir, biking the trails and grabbing a bite to eat in its downtown cafés and upscale restaurants, Walnut Creek’s appeal to those who like to get out and about is undeniable.
