The neighborhood of Mission Dolores sits between The Mission and Eureka Valley/Dolores Heights. It is a popular area for a mix of people, from working-class Latino families to young professionals to artists and others who enjoy its culturally diverse atmosphere. Within the Mission area it is easy to find great food like spicy taquerias and Mexican bakeries, as well as buildings of historic significance.

The Mission is home to Mission Dolores, the city’s oldest structure and the sixth Franciscan Mission along El Camino Real. Located nearby is the ornate Mission Dolores Basilica. The original Levi Strauss factory is located in this area at 250 Valencia St. and has since been converted into the San Francisco Friends School.

The Mission enjoys an eclectic mix of housing stock. There are approximately 2,600 Victorian homes, of which approximately 900 are Italianate houses of the 1870s, another 800 are the Stick-style houses popular in the 1880s, and only about 550 Queen Anne houses since by the 1890s, most Inner Mission land was already built upon. Several newer developments in the area like The Valencia, 1587 15th St., Chelsea Park, and more offer a more modern feel and have been strongly influenced by the live/work loft movement of the early 1990s. These homes offer expansive spaces with high ceilings and abundant natural light.

If you're looking for a top-notch meal, take a stroll down Valencia Street—aka Restaurant Row—where you'll find hundreds of delicious options to choose from. You can find a fantastic meal whether on a tight budget like Puerto Alegre or looking for a more sophisticated dining experience like Foreign Cinema. If you are looking for delicious coffee and a tasty snack, stop into Tartine Bakery for a croque monsieur or some yummy bread pudding. Or you can always stop by the Valencia Farmers Market for some farm fresh produce.

While this neighborhood has traditionally been inhabited by a healthy mix of hipsters and Latino families, it is also home to an active arts community and colorful murals covering the walls of entire blocks. Other community features include the Mission Neighborhood Center and the Women's Building on 18th St between Valencia and Guerrero with its colorful mural walls telling the history of the women's movement throughout the years.

Dolores Park is a fantastic place to settle in with a good book or to simply spend the day people watching. Bring the kids over to enjoy a large playground area with adjacent picnic benches, which can fill up pretty quickly on a sunny day.

Speaking of the weather, this neighborhood enjoys the most sunny days of any part of the City. Enjoy watching the fog bank stream around Twin Peaks as it enshrouds the rest of the City while you bask in the warm Mission sunshine.

With new homes cropping up all over the Mission, and abundant historic Victorian houses, this is a great place to call home.
