At-a-Glance

Although one of the oldest (and most storied) neighborhoods in Oakland, in the late 1800s, Temescal served as little more than a train stop for cars traveling from downtown Oakland to Berkeley. But as the town grew, so, too, did its residents’ desire for a better quality of life, and, at the close of that century, they voted to join the City of Oakland in an effort to gain access to better public schools and police services.
